Network roles

Become a governance member.

Governance members decide who joins the network's admitted roles. Every sponsorship and every vote is public, recorded under the member's thumbprint.

The role

What it is, and what it isn't.

Is

  • A member who sponsors and votes on admissions and removals of governance members, footnote reviewers, and validators.
  • A public role. Your sponsorships and votes are recorded on the network under your thumbprint.

Isn't

  • A moderator. Governance members have no say over what anyone publishes or sees.
  • An owner of the protocol. Protocol changes come through releases, not votes.

Role guide

A volunteer role with responsibilities.

Governance membership is voluntary and unpaid. Members read the applications they receive, sponsor the candidates they support, and vote in public. The guide covers how applications and votes work, and how to step down.

Your thumbprint

Create your key with the Bigfoot CLI.

Run bigfoot-node create-key and copy the thumbprint it reports. The CLI runs on Linux and macOS. Keep the key safe: if you are admitted, it is the key you vote with.

Apply

Apply as a governance member.

Governance members read every application themselves. Tell them why you want this role and how you would help Bigfoot succeed in it. Your email address stays with us.

Please make sure your thumbprint is accurate before submitting. For help finding it, see Find your thumbprint.

While you hold a network role, you'll receive service emails about Bigfoot, such as network updates and software patches. They're required while you hold the role and aren't marketing.
