Bigfoot Source License 1.0 Copyright (c) 2026 Soliton Group This license is source-available and commercial-use limited. It is not an OSI-approved open-source license. 1. Scope This license applies to the Bigfoot source code, object code, documentation, protocol specifications, fixtures, tests, configuration, scripts, assets, and other materials in this repository that are not expressly covered by another license (the "Covered Software"). Third-party components, dependencies, libraries, browser engines, WebViews, system frameworks, package-manager downloads, and other upstream software are not relicensed by this license. Those components remain governed by their own licenses and notices. If a third-party license gives you broader rights in that third-party component, this license does not narrow those rights for that component. If a third-party license imposes obligations on distribution or use of that component, you must comply with those obligations separately. 2. Definitions "Bigfoot" means the Covered Software, the Bigfoot protocol materials, the Bigfoot canonical network and compatibility/conformance marks, and any software or service derived from or based on the Covered Software. "Derivative" means any modification, fork, port, translation, adaptation, combination, build, distribution, or other work based on the Covered Software. "Commercialize Bigfoot" means to sell, rent, lease, sublicense, monetize, offer, host, manage, bundle, provide, or otherwise make available Bigfoot, a Derivative, or access to Bigfoot as a product, service, paid feature, hosted service, managed service, API, gateway, search service, social layer, browser, extension, node, relay, SDK, data service, or material feature of another commercial product or service. "Conduct Business Using Bigfoot" means to use official or canonical Bigfoot software, records, clients, nodes, APIs, or network participation as a user or operator of your own business, organization, publication, community, browser, social platform, research operation, or internal workflow, without Commercializing Bigfoot. 3. Permitted Rights Subject to this license, Soliton Group grants you a limited, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to: - read, inspect, audit, and evaluate the Covered Software; - copy, modify, build, and run the Covered Software for personal, educational, research, internal business, testing, security review, or other noncommercial use; - Conduct Business Using Bigfoot; - run unmodified official or canonical Bigfoot clients or nodes to participate in the canonical Bigfoot network; - distribute the Covered Software or Derivatives for noncommercial purposes, provided that you include this license, preserve all copyright and license notices, and do not claim official, canonical, compatible, certified, or endorsed status without written permission from Soliton Group. These rights permit you to run, inspect, verify, and debug your own node, and to audit how the Covered Software handles canonical network state. They do not permit you to extract, aggregate, retain for unrelated purposes, publish, or supply to another party the canonical network state your node obtains, in order to enumerate, identify, correlate, or target the providers that store particular records, or to build, operate, or assist any tool or service that does so. Use of canonical network state by the Covered Software to perform its own protocol duties is not restricted by this paragraph, and good-faith security research is permitted where findings are disclosed to Soliton Group before publication. 4. Commercialization Restrictions Without prior written permission from Soliton Group, you may not, directly or indirectly: - Commercialize Bigfoot; - sell or charge for access to the Covered Software, a Derivative, or Bigfoot functionality; - provide Bigfoot, a Derivative, or Bigfoot functionality as a hosted service, managed service, SaaS product, API, gateway, search endpoint, social endpoint, browser product, extension product, node service, relay service, SDK, or data service; - include the Covered Software, a Derivative, or Bigfoot functionality as a material feature of a commercial product or service, even if Bigfoot is only one part of that product or service; - monetize Bigfoot access or Bigfoot functionality through subscriptions, usage fees, license fees, app-store sales, advertising, sponsorship, revenue share, bundled pricing, paid support tied to access, or another commercial mechanism; - white-label, rebrand, or commercially distribute a fork or derivative Bigfoot client, node, browser, gateway, API, relay, search service, social service, or protocol service; - remove, obscure, or alter copyright, license, attribution, provenance, trademark, compatibility, conformance, or network-status notices; - bypass license checks, canonical-network admission rules, compatibility controls, conformance controls, or update gates that are included in the Covered Software. 5. Trademarks, Names, And Compatibility Claims This license does not grant any trademark, service mark, trade name, logo, domain-name, endorsement, certification, or compatibility right. You may not use the names "Bigfoot", "Soliton Group", "Soliton Labs", or any confusingly similar name or mark to brand, market, endorse, certify, or imply official status for any Derivative, fork, service, product, network, gateway, node, browser, extension, API, dataset, or protocol implementation without prior written permission from Soliton Group. You may not claim that a Derivative, fork, service, product, network, gateway, node, browser, extension, API, dataset, or protocol implementation is official, canonical, compatible, conformant, certified, endorsed, or part of the canonical Bigfoot network unless Soliton Group has granted that status in writing and the applicable conformance requirements are met. 6. Contributions If you intentionally submit a contribution to Soliton Group for inclusion in Bigfoot, you grant Soliton Group a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable, sublicensable, and transferable license to use, copy, modify, distribute, publish, perform, display, sublicense, relicense, and otherwise exploit that contribution as part of Bigfoot or related products and services. You represent that you have the right to submit the contribution and that your submission does not knowingly include secrets, confidential information, personal data that should not be published, or code you are not authorized to license. 7. Patents Each contributor grants you a limited, worldwide, royalty-free patent license to make, use, sell, offer for sale, import, and otherwise run the contributor's contribution only as necessary to exercise the rights expressly permitted by this license. If you initiate a patent claim alleging that the Covered Software or a contribution infringes a patent, your rights under this license terminate immediately. 8. Termination Your rights under this license terminate automatically if you violate this license. After termination, you must stop using, copying, modifying, distributing, hosting, providing, or making available the Covered Software and all Derivatives, except to the extent another written agreement with Soliton Group permits otherwise. Soliton Group may reinstate rights after a violation only by written permission. 9. No Warranty The Covered Software is provided "as is" and without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, security, availability, accuracy, or error-free operation. 10. Limitation Of Liability To the maximum extent permitted by law, Soliton Group and contributors will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or other damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, business opportunity, or use, arising from or related to the Covered Software or this license, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. 11. Written Permission Only Soliton Group may grant exceptions to this license. Any exception, commercial license, compatibility authorization, trademark authorization, canonical-network authorization, or other special permission must be in a written agreement signed by Soliton Group.
